For 2019, NewYork Presbyterian Hospital ranks No. 5 in the nation and No. 1 among all hospitals in New York state and the New York metro region. NewYork Presbyterian also ranks in the top five nationwide in six specialties: cardiology and heart surgery (No. 4), gynecology (No.4), nephrology (No.5), neurology/neurosurgery (No. 4), psychiatry (No. 4), and rheumatology (No. 3), a collaborative program with the Hospital for Special Surgery. NewYork Presbyterian Hospital ranks in the top 10 in 10 specialties this year, and in the top 50 in 15 of the 16 specialties evaluated.
 
NewYork Presbyterian Hospital is one of only 20 hospitals in the nation to be named to the 2019-2020 Best Hospitals Honor Roll, a distinction recognizing hospitals that deliver the highest quality of care across a range of specialties, procedures, and conditions. A member of the Honor Roll of America's Best for 19 consecutive years, this distinction is the most recent indication that NewYork Presbyterian Hospital — and the care it provides — continues to be among the best in America.
 
More than 265 NewYork Presbyterian physicians, representing 63 adult and pediatric specialties were included in New York magazine’s 2019 “Best Doctors” listing. For more than 20 years, New York magazine has published the “Best Doctors” listing, which is a select subset of the Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. “Top Doctors” series. Castle Connolly, a research and information firm, surveys medical professionals to identify exceptional providers in the area. The Top Doctors listing is a compilation of the top 10 percent of the region’s physicians – more than 74,00 clinicians.
 
On January 1, 1998, The New York Hospital publicly announced its full-asset merger with The Presbyterian Hospital to create NewYork Presbyterian Hospital. In this unprecedented event, two world-class academic healthcare institutions combined to create the largest and most comprehensive hospital in New York, with over 13,000 employees and 2,200 patient beds.
 
NewYork Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, NewYork Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, NewYork Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health Center and the NewYork Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center Psychiatry Program have received national recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. The ANCC recognizes health care organizations whose nursing teams consistently deliver excellence in patient care with the highest levels of professionalism and innovation. This recognition is considered the gold standard and comprises a select group of 8% of hospitals in the United States.
